Video terms / DEMOVELA FIELD GUIDE

What is a video safe area?

A video safe area is a planned region where essential text and product evidence are less likely to be obscured or cropped in a particular placement. It must be defined for the destination, not treated as one universal margin.

Why it matters

Player controls, captions, feed buttons and device layouts can cover different parts of the frame. A headline that looks balanced in an editor may become unreadable after the video is placed inside a social interface.

Apply the idea to product footage

  1. Identify the intended placement and inspect its current interface. Note overlays, expected crops and caption regions.
  2. Place the action, result and essential headline inside a conservative working area. Keep decorative elements separate from information the viewer must understand.
  3. Review a representative export in the actual placement or a faithful layout mock-up. Repeat for each aspect ratio instead of scaling the same margins blindly.
MAKE IT CONCRETE

A concrete example

An illustrative portrait demo may keep its decisive status label above the area occupied by playback controls while placing a short title near the top. If the product’s own menu opens into that title, the scene needs another composition.

Limits and checks

A generic safe-area template cannot guarantee visibility on every platform or device. Platform layouts can change, and the product interface itself can introduce new obstructions during interaction.

Your next step

Store destination-specific overlays with the review files and check both the opening frame and the busiest product scene.
