When this is useful
A muted preview can look like a failed recording, while a recorder can also successfully capture video with no selected audio input. Adding volume in an editor cannot recover a signal that was never recorded.
Diagnose and fix the cause
- Inspect the file in a media tool or editor to see whether an audio track exists and whether its waveform contains a signal. Test with headphones and a different player.
- If no useful signal exists, verify the recorder’s input selection and operating-system permissions. Record a short spoken test and, separately, a permitted application sound.
- If the source contains sound but the export does not, inspect timeline mute states, audio export settings and the rendered file. Check the embedded player’s muted state as a separate delivery issue.
What this looks like in practice
An illustrative product tutorial may record the presenter’s microphone but omit the application notification sound. That is not necessarily a broken microphone. Decide whether the notification is essential, then configure and test the relevant capture source.
Limits and checks
Browser autoplay often requires muted playback. A muted autoplay preview does not prove the file lacks sound. Demovela’s ambient soundtrack examples also should not be mistaken for recorded product audio or narration.
