Recording fixes / DEMOVELA FIELD GUIDE

Screen recording audio out of sync: find the drift

Check whether the sound has a constant offset or gradually drifts away from the picture. A constant offset can be aligned; progressive drift requires investigating timing or duration differences.

When this is useful

A delayed narration track and a recording with inconsistent timing need different fixes. Randomly moving the audio until the first sentence looks right can hide a problem that returns near the end.

Diagnose and fix the cause

  1. Identify visible and audible reference points near the beginning and end, such as a clearly spoken action paired with its click. Measure whether the mismatch remains similar or grows.
  2. For a fixed offset, align the audio track and replay several points. For growing drift, inspect source timestamps and the edit sequence settings before stretching the track.
  3. Export a short diagnostic section plus the ending. Check the actual delivery file on another player to distinguish an export problem from a playback issue.
MAKE IT CONCRETE

What this looks like in practice

An illustrative narration recorded separately may start half a second before its intended scene. Moving the entire track can correct that fixed relationship. If the ending is several seconds wrong after the beginning is aligned, a simple shift will not fix both.

Limits and checks

Do not change the frame-rate interpretation of footage casually: that can change duration and create new sync errors. Keep the original audio and video intact so timing adjustments remain reversible.

Your next step

Document whether the error is offset or drift, and correct that specific cause before polishing transitions or music.
