Recording fixes / DEMOVELA FIELD GUIDE

Screen recording colours look wrong after export

Compare the source and export under the same viewing conditions before changing colours. Capture colour settings, conversion, display differences and player behaviour can all affect the appearance.

When this is useful

A brand colour that looks different in two screenshots is not enough to diagnose the cause. The screenshots may come from different displays, colour spaces or player states. An arbitrary colour correction can fix one preview while damaging the actual asset.

Diagnose and fix the cause

  1. Compare the original and export on the same display in the same player where possible. Use a stable product scene with known neutral backgrounds and brand colours.
  2. Inspect whether the source uses HDR or another colour workflow different from the intended delivery. Configure conversion deliberately in your editor rather than applying a compensating tint by eye.
  3. Export a short sample and review it in the actual browser placement and on a second device. Record the settings so later variants use the same pipeline.
MAKE IT CONCRETE

What this looks like in practice

An illustrative dark interface may appear washed out in one embedded preview while the local file looks correct. Comparing that file in another player helps determine whether to investigate the encode or the original placement before recapturing the product.

Limits and checks

There is no single colour filter that fixes every washed-out recording. Avoid claiming exact brand-colour reproduction across all consumer displays. Keep the untouched source for a corrected conversion if necessary.

Your next step

Standardise the capture-to-export colour workflow and approve a reference sample before rendering the complete asset family.
