Why it matters
A static interface and a fast animated transition can require different amounts of encoded data to preserve detail. Codec, resolution, frame rate and encoder settings all influence how efficiently those bytes are used.
Apply the idea to product footage
- Separate video bitrate from audio bitrate when estimating size. Convert units consistently: eight bits make one byte.
- Choose a representative section containing small text and motion. Compare exports at different settings using the same source and display size.
- Measure the final file and inspect its difficult scenes. Treat variable-bitrate targets as estimates rather than exact byte limits.
A concrete example
An illustrative 30-second video averaging 4 Mbps uses about 15 MB for its video payload: 4 × 30 ÷ 8. Audio and container overhead add to that number. The file-size calculator lets you include an audio allowance.
Limits and checks
Bitrate is not a universal quality score. A larger low-efficiency encode can look worse than a smaller well-configured one, and repeatedly re-encoding a compressed source can degrade interface text.
