Recording fixes / DEMOVELA FIELD GUIDE

Screen recording file too large: reduce it carefully

Reduce unnecessary duration, excessive dimensions and excessive bitrate in that order of editorial importance. Preserve enough detail for interface text to remain readable.

When this is useful

A long login or loading sequence can account for more bytes than the useful demonstration. Compression settings should be chosen after the story is cut; otherwise you may damage the important scenes to retain footage nobody needs.

Diagnose and fix the cause

  1. Keep an untouched original, then remove irrelevant waiting and duplicate navigation from the delivery edit. Preserve a truthful indication of meaningful processing time where necessary.
  2. Match output dimensions to the placement. A large desktop capture shown as a small preview does not automatically need a full-resolution delivery file.
  3. Export a representative section at a lower bitrate and inspect text, scrolling and transitions. Compare bytes and readability, then apply the selected settings to the full edit.
MAKE IT CONCRETE

What this looks like in practice

At a combined average bitrate of 4.128 megabits per second, an illustrative 60-second file has about 30.96 MB of media payload before container overhead. Cutting it to 30 seconds roughly halves that payload at the same bitrate; the calculator makes the assumption explicit.

Limits and checks

Variable bitrate, audio, metadata and container overhead affect actual bytes. An estimated target size is not an upload guarantee. Repeatedly compressing an already compressed export can make small text worse.

Your next step

Estimate the delivery budget, encode from the best source, and measure the final file rather than relying on an export preset name.
