Interactive demo vs video: choose the viewer experience

An interactive demo lets the viewer advance through a guided experience. A video controls the order and timing of the explanation. Use interaction for exploration and video when the first impression depends on a clear, paced story.

When this is useful

The two formats answer different questions. A prospect who wants to inspect a workflow may appreciate control. Someone scrolling a launch feed may need the value to become visible before choosing to explore. Do not compare a long guided tour with a short teaser using raw completion percentages alone.

How to make the decision

  1. Choose the viewer action: understand the promise, inspect a feature or practise a task. Put one of those outcomes ahead of the format preference.
  2. Map where choice matters. If different roles need different branches, an interactive path may help. If the order explains cause and effect, a controlled sequence may be clearer.
  3. Define measurements suited to each experience. For video, review starts and qualified next actions; for a tour, also inspect which steps or branches people reach. Keep the audience and placement comparable.
MAKE IT CONCRETE

A practical decision example

An illustrative reporting product could use a short video to show a raw dataset becoming a useful chart. Its product page could then offer a guided exploration of filters and exports. The video introduces the outcome; the interactive experience answers follow-up questions.

Limits and checks

An interactive tour is not necessarily access to a live account, and a video is not evidence that every displayed action is available on every plan. Demovela creates video outputs; this page does not promise an interactive-tour builder.
